IGP REINFORCES COMMITMENT TO GENDER RESPONSIVE POLICING - PRESENTS THE NPF GENDER POLICY TO THE POLICE SERVICE COMMISSION (PSC)


Today, Tuesday, the 29th of July, 2025, the Nigeria Police Force took a significant step towards promoting gender equality and inclusivity within the force. The presentation of the NPF Gender Policy to the Police Service Commission (PSC) management underscores the Inspector-General of Police's unwavering commitment to making the force a gender-responsive and equal opportunity institution.


Represented by the Force Gender Advisor to the IGP, AIG Aishatu Abubakar Baju, PhD, OON, mni, the NPF highlighted the policy's key objectives and emphasized the crucial role of the PSC in its implementation. The FGA provided a comprehensive overview of the policy, outlining the strategic framework for promoting gender equality and inclusivity within the force.

In response, the Hon. Chairman of the PSC, DIG Hashimu Argungu, Rtd, mni, assured the IGP of the commission's commitment to implementing the policy's strategic objectives. This development marks a significant milestone in the Nigeria Police Force's journey towards creating a more inclusive and equitable work environment.

Similarly, the UN Women Country Representative to Nigeria and ECOWAS, Ms. Beatrice Eyong, represented by Mr. Peter Mancha, reiterated  UN Women's continued support for the NPF towards enhancing gender responsive security operations and broadly advancing gender equality and women's empowerment in Nigeria

The NPF remains dedicated to ensuring that its policies and practices promote gender equality, fairness, and justice, ultimately enhancing the force's effectiveness in serving the Nigerian people.

Today, Monday, September 8, 2025, over 25 female officers from the Nigeria Police Force joined their global counterparts in Glasgow, UK, for the International Association of Women Police (IAWP) Training Conference. Nigeria Police Women Participate in Exchange Program on Policing Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) in the UK

A team of Nigerian women Police officers, led by AIG Aishatu Abubakar Baju, PhD, OON, mni, Force Gender Advisor to the Inspector-General of Police, recently participated in a prestigious international training program on Policing Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) in London, UK. The training, organized by the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) in collaboration with the British National Police Chiefs Council and facilitated by the British Council in Nigeria, aimed to facilitate an exchange of information between police forces in the UK and Nigeria on effective policing of VAWG.
