Nigeria Police Women Participate in Exchange Program on Policing Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) in the UK

A team of Nigerian women Police officers, led by AIG Aishatu Abubakar Baju, PhD, OON, mni, Force Gender Advisor to the Inspector-General of Police, recently participated in a prestigious international training program on Policing Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) in London, UK. The training, organized by the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) in collaboration with the British National Police Chiefs Council and facilitated by the British Council in Nigeria, aimed to facilitate an exchange of information between police forces in the UK and Nigeria on effective policing of VAWG. The five-day program, which took place from September 22nd to 26th, 2025, in London, featured interactive sessions, presentations, and visits to key UK Police units. Today, Monday, September 8, 2025, over 25 female officers from the Nigeria Police Force joined their global counterparts in Glasgow, UK, for the International Association of Women Police (IAWP) Training Conference. As a global organization, IAWP is dedicated to empowering women in law enforcement, strengthening their capacities, and uniting them. The Nigeria Police delegation was led by the Force Gender Advisor (FGA) to the Inspector General of Police, AIG Aishatu Abubakar Baju, PhD, OON, mni. Force Gender Advisor Meets with United Nations Deputy Secretary-General to Discuss NPF's Transformative Gender Policies

Abuja, Nigeria - The Force Gender Advisor to the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), AIGAishatuAbubakarBaju,  OON,  mni, on Tuesday, the 26th of August, 2025, met with Her Excellency Amina J. Mohammed, Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations, to discuss the Nigeria Police Force's (NPF) groundbreaking gender policies and initiatives. During the meeting, the Force Gender Advisor briefed the UN Deputy Secretary-General on the IGP's commitment to promoting gender inclusivity and mainstreaming within the NPF, aligning with the United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325 and Mr. President's Renewed Hope Agenda on Inclusivity. The initiatives highlighted included the development of the NPF Gender Policy, expansion of Gender Desks to divisional levels to enhance response to Gender-Based Violence (GBV) cases, and the IGP's pledge to make the NPF an equal opportunity institution.
